Just a little late Fall ridge lift kind of day. Landed after sunset but plenty of light to see. Perfect self launching conditions off a cliff...not to strong at all.

Ron wasted no time setting up and soared for a half hour or so (see picture). Those of us who dallied flew down. Hit the road, but a little harder than I wanted to.

Surprised to find east when we got there (not really, it's BLANCHARD!), surprised that when it finally turned west that it wasn't stronger, surprised that what we saw coming while setting up didn't ever get there, surprised I went up when I finally launched, expecting a sledder! Best surprise was how well my glider flew! Finally got the turn out and I'm liking my Sport II again!

Out for a sledder with Roger S before in preparation for the comming rain. Got a few wacky photos with my gopro helmet cam dangling on some fishing line. Tail wind landing wasn't a big deal just overshot my favorite place to land.

Not spectacular but beautiful, smooth, and soarable all day. Many pilots flew and a good time was had by all!

Finally figured out the Blanchard combo. After feeling like I was late yesterday I showed up early before the Q's dissipated. By the time I was set up at 10:30am the clouds were already leaving. I launched in very light conditions and flew as far East as possible in an all or nothing search. nothing...finally found light lift at 350' agl in front of the lowest house on colony mt. drifted with it east until it turned on. 2500' cloud base was enough to get me to Alger Mt. Lookout Mt had the best lift of the day with a 3800' CB. Jumped over lake whatcom to Squalicum mt where the lift felt like a broken devil. Flew into nomans land low and deep in the Stuart mt bowl where an eagle helped me center in the lift. Jumped over to Sumas mt with the turkeys and then made my way across the Canadian boarder just for bragging rights. I eventually made it back to the Mt baker hwy west of Nuggents Corner trying to retrace my route. Close to 50 miles when I landed at 2:30 after a mistake under a low but beautiful sky. I then iced the cake with a tandem at Iron Mt (4500' launch) thermalling with a sweet girl and an old eagle. Just doesn't get any better than that!

Wind West at 0-18, sky Cu/clear

Launched in the Am looking to hook up with some early Q's. Hung in ther for a bit and then out to the duck LZ where I faught 300' over with a very rare grass devil about 75' across and tracking fast. Kicked my ass like any low devil in chelan. went up for round 2 light thermal mixed with even lighter ridge hung in at 400 agl during the flush just long enough for the ridge to come in. crabbed back to launch gained a few over and flew to chuckanut as low as I ever have. Thermaled until the ridge caught up and flew to Bellingham. Awesome!

One of my best flights at Sauk. Landed in no wind conditions, in the field next to fishing access parking lot, SE to NW final through the channel in the trees. Hey, ya just got to fly thru the forest when ya get a chance like this.

Black, 16:00 on Sun, 16-Aug-09, Dave Duperon
Wind E/N/NW at -5 to 10, sky Blu/cu

Seemed like the later one launched, the longer one could fly and the friendlier the LZ became.

Blanchard, 2:00 on Sat, 18-Jul-09, Dave Duperon
Wind E/SE/S at 0-15, sky Blu
Duration:  15 min
Max Alt:  200 over
Each pilot in turn waited for a thermal to override the east (yes, it's Blachard!) and bring a straight cycle up the S launch. Then, each pilot, in turn, worked a cycle or two, maybe getting up a little over launch briefly, then scratch to the LZ. Nice air in the LZ but ratty on the hill in the blown-apart thermals. Fun, short thermal flight.

Chelan Butte, 14:00 on Thu, 09-Jul-09, Jim
Wind ESE at Calm, sky PTCLDY
Duration:  4 hour

40+ pilots flew in exc. XC conditions with abundant lift and closely spaced pancake cumulus. Sub-freezing at 13-14K CB. 80 deg. on ground. Thermals generally 800-1500 FPM. Hard to descend. Too much fun.

Blanchard, 18:03 on Sun, 28-Jun-09, Dave Duperon
Wind W/NW at 5-10, sky Blue/Cu

Light lift off to the right in W/NW for a few climbs back up to launch level, turbulent west in LZ, tiptoe landing.

Blanchard, 13:30 on Sat, 06-Jun-09, Dave Duperon
Wind S/SE at 5-10, sky Cloudy
Duration:  40 min
Max Alt:  600 over
South launch after waiting a while for long enough cycle, still light, crossing from east a bit but small amount of thermal activity brought air up, even a little cross from right. Once up in the air, though, direction was obviously still east-ish. Climbed slowly for first half of flight, decended slowly for 2nd half. Overshot my spot but flaired hard over Tom's driveway for perfect landing.

Excellent flight! Could have soared all afternoon but wanted to get into the valley flow without getting worn out (2nd flight after surgery). Complementary glass of excellent syrah from LongSword vinyards where we landed topped it of nicely. Life is good...

Longest layoff from flying since I started in 1972. Just 2 other HG's, Mike and Greg. Praise the lift!

A long way up the back side now that the front is closed due to come inconsider-rat f-ing Paraglider pilot zooming down the road. Well the flight was a good thermal one in and out of the clouds...my favorite kind, but it kicked my out of shape butt.

Flew all over Whatcom county on this beautiful day full of challenges. Got low at black mt working broken lift when I spotted two eagles sitting in a tree. Dove down and cackled at them and then just followed them to a core going to 6,000'. Flew in soft hail under a street that was threatening to go nimbus and a nice landing in a huge field next to the Mt Baker winery. here Can you find the border in the picture?

Great time at the Beach'N 2009. Flew both days, first flight each day was a sledder, and 2nd each I could've stayed up as long as I wanted. This one just an hour as I launded late, and we needed to drive home. New altitude record for me. I thought it was ~9200, but checking my log at home it was 9452 according to my GPS log. Brrr! Spent just about as much time spiraling down as I did thermalling up! In hindsight I could've gone much further, but I'm still on a falcon... Trying not to push it too much.

Hello everyone. I hope the beach-in was good, Blanchard was not. Dave S and I stop by Joels to do some work, and then we were going flying. well I talk Joel in to driving for us. (ha ha) The flying sucked, but it was sure good to see Joels smiling face back on Blanchard.
